The Shoe Project started in 1993

while an art student.

I noticed how once people's shoes were worn they developed more character, taking on the habits and patterns of the person who wore them.

I started collecting shoes of fellow students and artists until I had over 100 pairs in all shapes & styles, and I used them as vehicles, inspiration, subject matter and material for making art.  However, practicality started to come into play what to do with all these shoes?  I was living in LA off of Wilshire near McArther park and there was a big homeless problem so I catalogued and  documented the shoes and started leaving them all over the place for people to find and hopefully to cheer or inspire those feeling down.
